Topic outline:

In this presentation, Peter Cole will demonstrate using the vbWatchdog - Global Error Handler and Tracing utility from EverythingAccess together with his free vbWatchdog Unleashed system.

vbWatchdog
•   a unique error handling system for VBA projects
•   No binding to any dll’s. All of vbWatchdog is contained in 5 class modules.
•   Comparing vbWatchdog and standard VBA error handling code
•   Why line numbers are clutter in code. Dynamic line numbers in vbWatchdog.
•   How did I arrive at the error? Showing the Callstack.
•   What variables were in scope when the error happened, and what values did they contain?
•   Existing error handling works with no modification.
•   How it works by using the Global Error Handler procedure
•   Using an Access form to display error details.

vbWatchdog Unleashed
Consists of 3 Access accdb databases with the following aims
•   Make it simple for any developer to add with zero learning time (vbWatchdogUnleashed)
•   View past error messages (VBWDErrorViewer)
•   Simply adjust what is logged (VBWDSetLoggingDetails)

Peter will show how a fully configured vbWatchdog can be added to any Access database in under two minutes.
He will then show the log of errors that have occurred using the viewer and finally adjusting what is logged.

Unleashed installs the trial version of vbWatchdog to allow testing at no cost.

Background Info:

Peter Cole
Peter Cole is based in the UK and has been working with Access for well over 25 years. His website includes utilities for working with Access themes and 32-bit to 64-bit conversion utilities.

Peter has been using the error handler from EverythingAccess since April 2010, before it was renamed vbWatchdog. It has proved invaluable when debugging his ApplyStyle add-in.
When an error occurs in the running add-in, any changes made to fix the error in the add-in code also need to be made in the source accdb.

It has also proved extremely useful in the development of his 32 to 64 bit tools as when working on hundreds of databases, from assorted developers, unexpected errors occurred frequently in the early development.
