This article contains an example app demonstrating how reusable class module code can be used to highlight the current row and/or alternate rows in continuous forms.
The class module code was written by Access developer, Eric Blomquist, and is used here with the author's permission.
As with many class-based solutions, the underlying code is quite complex, but the main benefit is that it can be applied to any form with minimal code.
The following code is all that is required to make this work on any form:
PublicowecRowHighlightAswecRowHighlightPrivate SubForm_Open(CancelAs Integer)SetowecRowHighlight=NewwecRowHighlightSetowecRowHighlight.Form=MeEnd Sub
The example app opens to a startup form with links to two working examples.
Each example form includes a highlight target combo box with 4 choices: None, Current Row, Alternate Rows, or Both with the default being alternate row colours.
Each form also includes two combo boxes allowing users to select the alternate row and current row background colours.
The alternate row colours are deliberately muted with the current row colours more pronounced.
The screenshot below shows pale yellow alternate row colours and the various colour choices available:
The next screenshot shows light red used for the current row colour and the various colour choices available:
All user choices update the form instantly without needing to reload the form.
Below are two screenshots of the other example form showing different combinations of both current row and alternate row colours:
